Confirmation Ministry

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Confirmation is a time for students to sincerely examine their faith, to learn what it means to be a member of the Church (both the United Methodist Church as well as the Body of Christ), and to confirm or reaffirm their faith publicly.

• Confirmation is an eight month program that meets for the majority of the school year beginning in September. Classes will meet for 1 ˝ hours once each week. School calendars are accommodated as much as possible.

• Confirmation is open to all students in the 9th -12th grades.

• Confirmation is a Family Based Ministry Program. This means that families are encouraged to participate at every level, and to be a part of the process. Confirmation is something to be celebrated by families as well as the Church.


Here’s a quick overview of what Confirmation includes:

1. We use a 13-week curriculum published by Group Publishing with an emphasis on experiential learning, Bible Study, dialog, decision-making, and spiritual growth.

2. We include information specific to the United Methodist Church and FCUMC and Water’s Edge, as well as information on other Christian and non-Christian faiths.

3. We plan 2 retreats – one student-only retreat, and one that would include families.

4. Meaningful, local mission projects are part of the programming.

5. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal statement of faith.

6. A Celebration Dinner is planned at the end of the year to acknowledge the growth during the year and celebrate the time we have spent together.
